Our History

Acorn was established in August 1982 by Chris Mannen, Bernice Roesler, Valez Peterson, and Diana Westermann. Acorn was located in the basement of St. Edwards’ school. The first year, enrollment consisted of 20 preschoolers, 5 kindergartners, 1 first grader and three half time teachers. In 1986 Acorn moved to an expanded facility on Filer Avenue, where the school operated happily until 2018 when the school expanded to its current location.

The school was established to provide an opportunity for an alternative education in the Magic Valley. The founders, and the present teachers, wished to have the opportunity to teach small classes of students in a supportive, creative environment, that values each individual’s unique gifts and own learning style.
